Well, that might explain the vibration...

After spending $20 checking the balance on the front wheels and telling me they were fine, the tech tried to send me on my way to have my alignment checked. His boss came out and I asked if a rear balance problem may be causing my issue. He took one look at the right rear and said it was shot:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Holy crap! Yeah, I'd have to agree with his assessment. Here I was mentioning that the vibrations that started around 60 smoothed out a bit around 85. Oh shit oh shit oh shit...

Those have got to be about the baldest damn tires I have ever seen that were still being driven on. You might as well mount slicks.

Is he legally blind?

Are you running the proper PSI? They look overinflated.

I’ve checked with a depth gauge and they still have sufficient tread. However, I plan on replacing them in the fall (or the next time Costco has a tire sale, whichever comes first...)

The tires on my car were at least as bad when I changed them out.

Please, don’t judge me.

Don’t you just love how some lazy techs these days “diagnose” problems without even giving a proper look?

I had a tire vibration issue recently as well... only for me it was caused by some broken belts that caused one of the tires to develop a bald spot... and was also fixed with a pair of new tires.

Well, he only looked at the fronts. This one was the right rear.

Right at 35. Gauge was happy and so was TPMS.

Does the door say set them at 35?

Yes, that’s the recommended setting per the door tag. I’m pretty anal about pressure, but it looks like my tire inspections need to be a tad more involved than just pressure and tread depth.

Yeah, I think I’ll go back to good ol’ Michelin for the next set . I didn’t care for the OEM Bridgestones, and those are the two big brands that Costco carries.

I mean, after you get new tires, I’d still get that alignment. Those tires are spent all around, but they definitely seen more worn on the inside.

C’mon.  You had to pay a tech to tell you that tire was finished? Turn in your Oppo card at the door my friend.

Well, it was on the inside of the tire, away from view. I just figured it was a balance problem, which, in a way, I guess it was, albeit not where I expected.

I don’t get anywhere near that wear, I basically go five years and change them. My 240Z has Toyos, they will dry out before I ever wear them down. Before I go swap them I will probably do some burnouts haha.
